How to measure a boat for a replacement bimini top or boat cover

What's the
difference? The
Bows are the
number of bars
that run through
the Bimini top to
secure it to the
frame. The one
pictured here is a 3
Bow. One bar on
each end and one
in the middle.
Ussally a 3 bow is
6 ft. long and a 4
bow is 8 ft. long

Height: the height measurement is usually
measured when purchasing a frame! You need
to decide what height is appropriate for you.
When considering a height you need to
remember that the height of the frame should be
added to the height of the rails of the boat where
it is going to be measured/mounted.
Example: If you order a frame with a height of 36
inches, it will be mounted to a side rail that is 30
inches tall, then you will have a head clearance
of 66 inches.
( 30 inch tall side rail + 36 inch frame 66" = Head
Clearance)

Width: To measure width, measure from side to side. You need to measure the width of the rails
where the Bimini frame connects to the boat/pontoon."Mounting point to mounting point"
Sometimes you can't measure straight across the boat because of obstacles in the way, such as
seats or the driver's console. In this case just measure the distance between the Bimini frame
itself. (if available) You can measure from the top of the frame close to where Bimini Cover rests.
Drop down a couple of inches, to the area of the Bimini frame that has straightened out, down the
side (beyond the rounded edge of the frame where it turns down to attach to the boat/pontoon.)

This section is to help you measure your existing frame for a replacement cover. If you
need to measure your boat for a complete top or frame CLICK HERE

Length: When you measure the length, make sure your Bimini top is stretched taut. Then Measure
from front to back. If your old Bimini top is off the frame, just stretch it out on the ground and
measure from edge to edge, front to back, for length. ONLY MEASURE the outer edge of the
pockets or "sleeves" that your two end bows go through. Some Bimini top fabrics have a couple
of inches of "flap" that overhang the ends. This can add anywhere from 6-12 inches to the length if
you include it in your measurement. Only measure from pocket to pocket, end to end.
